Is Stamp Duty Applicable When Assigning Power of Attorney to a Friend for Property Registration?

Yes, stamp duty is applicable if you assign power of attorney to a friend to appear at the Sub-Registrar’s office to sign on your behalf. Following are the Stamp Duty in Karnataka

  • If you assign power of attorney to purchase a property, the stamp duty is Rs. 500
  • If you assign power of attorney to sell a property, the stamp duty is 5% of the selling price or guidance value, whichever is higher
  • If you assign a Special Power of attorney to purchase a property, the stamp duty is Rs. 500
  • If you assign a Special power of attorney to sell a property, the stamp duty is Rs. 500
